The data speaks clearly: reading habits among young adults (18-30 years old) are declining in many countries, with Italy having reading rates lower than the European average (ISTAT, 2023).

There are many causes: lack of time due to university or work commitments, the spread of smartphones, tablets, games, and video games, a family environment where reading is not a habit, which discourages activity even among children, and a marked lack of interest.

Despite the current critical situation, numerous successful strategies and experiences have proven to reconnect young adults with books and foster their love of reading: book clubs and silent reading encourage shared reading, turning it into a social occasion where watching others read increases the desire to open a book and browse through it. Online experiences also encourage this practice: booktoks and reading challenges create a sense of belonging and emulation that encourages young people to read.

In this context, FEM launches its social reading activity to introduce young people and adults to the practice of reading.

Once a month, Sunday afternoons from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, the spaces of FEM Studio At Via Sant'Eufemia, 27, they will be open to anyone who wants to learn to read or pick up a book that's been sitting on their bedside table for a while.
